
NAUTICA SPONSORS TRIATHLETE ANDY BALDWIN
New York, NY – Nautica® is poised to make a splash at this year's Nautica triathlon series with its sponsorship of former "Bachelor" Andy Baldwin. The Nautica triathlon series consists of competitions in Malibu, New York City and for the first time, South Beach, Miami. Each of the grueling competitions benefit a select group of charities – Children's Hospital Los Angeles, the New York City Parks Fund, and St. Jude Children's Hospital, respectively. These highly anticipated events bring together professional athletes, celebrities and triathlon enthusiasts from around the country to test their stamina and strength. Andy Baldwin embodies the athleticism, style and vigor that the Nautica brand is known for.
After receiving a full ROTC scholarship to Duke University, Andy Baldwin focused his studies on biology while also swimming at the varsity level. Upon graduation, Dr. Baldwin moved out west to further his education at the University of California – San Francisco School of Medicine. It was this move that ignited his passion for cycling and ultimately triathlons. Since he had swam competitively and ran marathons in college, his past experiences allowed him to excel in triathlon, which he first competed in during 2000. Dr. Baldwin has since competed internationally in many Ironman, Half-Ironman, and other triathlon distances.
After his television appearances, Dr. Baldwin has become increasingly involved with domestic and global humanitarian projects and is a passionate advocate of health and fitness, particularly with children. In 2007, he was named Humanitarian of the Year in 2007 by both Competitor Magazine and Triathlete Magazine for his medical outreach to third world populations.
For the 2008 series, Dr. Baldwin will compete in Nautica branded jerseys and shorts. For his various appearances throughout each weekend, Dr. Baldwin will continue to wear Nautica branded apparel including hats and jackets.
